3D Bioprinters to Print Human Skin and other Body Parts

3D bioprinters could begin printing human skin and other body parts in the near future. These printers work by depositing material both line by line and then vertically layer by layer. Researchers from Wake Forest University and several other universities are developing a system that will allow them to print skin onto damaged areas or burn wounds. The bioprinter is able to scan an area to determine the depth and area of a wound and then fabricate healthy skin in as little as a few minutes to several hours, depending on the severity of the wound.
