LayerWise from Belgium has printed a working mandible for an 83-year-old woman with an infected jaw. The woman suffered from progressive osteomyelitis and the decision for lower-jaw removal would have traditionally affected breathing, speaking, chewing, and swallowing. However, with the new 3D printer-created titanium jaw coated in bioceramic, the patient was speaking and swallowing within 24 hours. The jaw took only hours to print and uses less material than traditional methods.
