Virtual Cane

Researchers from Hebrew University are in the process of developing a “virtual cane” for the blind and visually impaired. The device would operate by using sonar-like technology and be able to detect objects within 10 meters. The handheld device can detect objects in the direction the user chooses and then communicate this via vibrations. The stronger the vibrations, the closer the object is.
