The system works by using our blood’s reflectivity of green LED light. The watch-like device also includes a three-axis accelerometer, electrodes to measure galvanic skin response and heat sensors to track temperature.
BodyMedia will soon be rolling out a new waterproof, disposable health-monitoring patch. When released, the new patch will be capable of detecting motion, sweat, temperature and rate of heat flowing off the body.
