Asthmapolis asthma sensor system has received FDA clearance in the United States. The system includes a sensor that attaches to asthma inhalers and works with mobile phones and the internet to track the time and location of inhaler use. The sensor utilizes GPS to track location and Bluetooth to upload data to remote servers. Patients can now map their asthma attacks and track the symptoms, triggers, and medications used. The goals of the Asthmapolis system include “first providing patients with insight into their disease, secondly to improve patient-physician communication about asthma management, and thirdly the geographic tracking of inhaler use” to gain information on environmental factors that may contribute to asthma attacks.
