Georgia Tech researchers are developing an electronic glove to help victims of spinal cord injury to regain hand motor skills. The Mobile Music Touch (MMT) Glove works with a computer, MP3 player or smartphone and sends vibrations to the user’s fingers as if prompting the user to play a programmed piano piece. The glove works with or without a piano and helps users memorize different keys to play and learn new songs. Though the glove helps users practice piano pieces, the gloves showed rehabilitative effects as well. Participants in the study improved significantly in motor skills which were tested after using the MMT system.
