Wireless Sensor to Predict Future Falls

A device from Texas Tech University will soon be able to predict whether a person may fall – even days in advance.  By analyzing a patient’s posture and gait patterns, the device can detect abnormalities in routines to predict future falls and alert patients to take caution.  Accelerometers and gyroscopes are included in the device, which is small enough to be worn on a belt.  Researchers are working on the making the device more accurate and hope that the finished product will aid the geriatric community and those who may have difficulties in balance.
