A new 3D endoscopic surgical robot from Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) and Kyushu University hopes to soon compete with the da Vinci robot.  The new system is projected to improve patient survival rates after invasive procedures and provides surgeons with 3D images of patients during surgery.  While the da Vinci surgical robot is mainly used for prostate and other cancers, the new system will be used in a wider variety of surgical procedures.
