A new bionic hand developed by researchers at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne in Switzerland is capable of feeling. The hand is to be transplanted and trialled later this year in Rome. The bionic hand connects directly to two nerves in the user’s arm via electrodes and will enable the user to control the hand using thoughts. The hand can then transmit sensory signals to the brain using the embedded sensors. In an earlier trial, the previous patient reported feeling sensations when manipulating objects with the bionic hand.
