Shape-Shifting Nanoparticles Target Tumors

shape-shiftingNanoparticlesUniversity of California, San Diego scientists have developed a new technique for targeting cancerous tissues. The team is developing injectable, shape-shifting nanoparticles that change in the presence of enzymes produced by cancer cells. The nanoparticles shift into netlike structures and accumulate at tumor sites. Researchers are working on integrating the nanoparticles with infrared dye to eventually enable visualization of tumors located deep within the body.
