Students from Rice University have developed a SMART belt to help individuals with epilepsy. The belt is able to detect electrical conductivity in the wearer’s skin and any changes in his/her respiration rate in order to predict a seizure and take action. The belt was designed for ages six and up and wearers report high levels of comfort even with the device on for long hours. Currently, the device is unable to stop seizures, but with the early warning system, parents can keep their children safe.
