DigniCap from Dignitana, a company from Lund, Sweden, has been cleared by the FDA to conduct final clinical trials and may soon be available in the US. The device protects cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy from hair loss. The system provides the patient’s head with continuous cooling during the therapy via a refrigeration and a touch screen control unit. Real-time monitoring of the scalp temperature allows the cap to deliver cooling. Previous clinical trials in Europe and Asia have resulting in eight out of ten women who used the DigniCap System retained hair.
