iRobot to sell “telepresence” robot

iRobot, the same company that released the Roomba vacuum cleaner has teamed up with Cisco to develop a new telepresence robot. The Ava 500 robot is a 5 foot 5 inch tall system that includes a screen, speakers, and camera to allow for remote telecommunication to and from anywhere in the world. The robot includes self-navigating abilities allowing remote users to navigate anywhere in the building before the robot must return to the docking station to recharge. While currently being marketed for business use the robot the system may soon be used in hospitals and offices for doctors to visit patients remotely.
