A team at Henry Ford Hospital has successfully implemented a robotic ultrasound probe to identify tumors during surgery. Using the technology, the surgeon performing the procedure has full control and does not need an assistant to guide the probe. According to the study, the robotic ultrasound is more easily manipulated and precise than traditional tools. The use of the new technology during procedures may minimize the need for additional surgery by reducing the chance that a cancerous part of the kidney is missed.
