A new system to prevent pressure ulcers has been developed by Wellsense, a company from Nashville, Tennessee. The MAP System consists of a sheet embedded with thousands of sensors that can detect pressure distribution in real time. A small monitor attaches to the bed and allows caregivers to see and react to the color display of pressure areas. The monitor guides the caregiver to reposition the patient in a way that puts the least pressure on all areas of the body. Alerts from the MAP system remind caregivers to move patients on a timely basis.
