Organ on a Chip

Following the trail of scientists who are using chips to do everything from develop tissues to test medicine, researcher Geraldine Hamilton has developed a chip which may revolutionize the pharmaceutical industry. The chip recreates an entire human cell environment (including cells, tissues and surrounding capillaries), to give the most accurate result of how a medication will respond in the human body. Hamilton hopes that this technology will help determine how medications will affect different demographic groups, and ultimately lead to the use of stem cells on chips to see individual responses to medication.
