American Museum of Natural History Debuts $1.3 Million Exosuit

exosuitOn February 27, 2014, the American Museum of Natural History debuted its $1.3 million Exosuit. The suit, which is 6.5 feet tall and weighs 530 pounds, will aid researchers in deep sea diving. The suit will allow divers to safely reach a depth up to 1,000 feet below the surface of the water for over 5 hours, and maintain dexterity and flexibility in the water. Despite the suit’s size, it was fairly easy to manage, and in a test run, an inexperienced diver was able to retrieve a dime from the ground while wearing the suit. The museum believes the suit will aid in biomedical research related to cancer cell tagging and brain activity.
